Probably the greatest advantage and problem in space is weightlessness.
On the one hand, weightlessness is a joy for many astronauts who have experienced it.
At first astronauts often experience spacesickness, similar to seasickness.
Some feel as if they have a cold, since weightlessness affects the sense of balance that is found in our ears,( A ) colds often disturb.
However, most adapt to weightlessness after a day or two,and become quite comfortable with it.
The real problem with weightlessness comes on long missions.
Astronauts who spend weeks in space often come back weakened.
Russian cosmonatuts have spent the most time in space ¡¼ up to a year.
When they return home, they are sometimes so ( B ) that they need help getting out of their space capsule.
It seems that much of the problem is caused by prolonged weightlessness of the body.
It's very much like extended bed-rest.
People who have to stay in bed for long periods because of illness often experience similar problems.
Their muscles become weak and their bones lose some of the calcium which gives (1){them} their strength.
The main technique for ( C ) this weakening and calcium loss is exercise.
Astronauts and cosmonauts have found that with hours of vigorous exercise every day they can ( D ) in reasonably good shape.
Scientists are still searching for a medicine that will help people retain their normal strength without having to spend so much time doing exercise.
