二度目の投稿者さん＞次の問題を受動態にしなさい。＞(1)Nobody has ever spoken to me like that before. ①これを受動態にした際、I have not ever ～　とせずにI have never としています。どうしてなんでしょうか？have not ではいけないんでしょうか？ ⇒(1)の英文を単純に受動態にすると I have ever been spoken to by nobody like that before. のようになるように思いがちですが、英語の標準語順ではever...nobodyという単語は許されず、代りに否定辞であるno/notなどの語句が極力文の前に出ようとします。つまりever->never　nobody->anybodyに代って I have never been spoken to by anybody like that before. となります。何でever...no(body)が不可でnot(never)...any(body)がOKなのかは、文法がそうなっているからだと考えてください。注；I have not　ever been spoken to by anybody like that before.も使えるのではないかと思いますが、標準語法ではないようです。 ②また、受動態にすると、by anybody となっているんですがそれがbeforeの前に来ています。普通、by ～　は文末にするものではないでしょうか？どうしてbeforeが文末にくるのでしょうか？ ⇒by anybody が文末にきても完全には間違いだというわけではないでしょうが、anybodyがspoken　toという動詞句の動作主である為、より動詞句の近くに置くべきだとの意識が働いた為、文末から動詞句の直後に移動してきたものだと思います。結論的にはどちらでもいいと思いますが、修飾語句(特に副詞的修飾語句)が長くなる場合は、文末に置くというのがより一般的な語順です。＞(2)Did nobody ever teach you how to behave? ③これを受動態にすると、今度はWere not you ever ～　となっています。ここを Were you never ～　としてはいけないのでしょうか？どうしていけないのか、理由が分かりません。 ⇒(2)の文を受動態の単純な語順変更である Were you ever taught how to behave by nobody? としてしまうと、上記(1)の①と同じ理由で不可で、逆に Were you never taught how to behave by anybody? が正解だと思いますが、、、要は必ず、not(never)...anyという語順でなければならないはずです。注；またWere not you ever ～という言い方は、非標準のためほとんど使われないと思います。 Were you not ever ...?であれば可能だと思います。ただしこれも例えば Were you or were you not ever ...?の様な対照的な言い回しの場合に使うのが普通です。＞もう一つ、英文作成の問題で私の作った英文を添削してほしいです。 (1)[ ]の中に与えられた語句をそのままの順序で用いて、指示の語数で英訳せよ。「なにか問題がある場合には、遠慮なくご連絡ください」(11語) [there is / hesitate / contact] 自分でやると If there is a anything trouble,you don`t hesitate to contact. としましたが、結果はかなりの間違いで正しい英文は If there is anything wrong,do not hesitate to contact me. でした。 ④anithingにaをつけたらいけないんでしょうか？ ⇒anythingはany+thingが1語になったもので、aという(不定)冠詞とanyという不定代名詞が連臆する語順は英語では嫌がるということです。(これも１つの文法項目です) ⑤また、troubleはだめでwrongがオーケイなのはどうしてなんでしょうか？ ⇒troubleは名詞又は動詞で、anythingという(不定代)名詞を後ろらか修飾することは出来ません。一方wrongという語は形容詞なので名詞の後置修飾が可能です。(これも文法項目です) 参考；nobody/everの語順について (a)(×)Anybody never asked him anything. 　　--->any(body) ... notという語順が不可 (b)(○)Nobody ever asked him anything. 　　--->Nobodyが文頭にあるためOK (c)(△)He was ever asked nothing by nobody. 　　--->nothing/nobodyという二重否定のため非標準 (d)(○)He was never asked anything by anybody. 　　--->not...anyという語順のためOK

レモンさん＞There is a woman outside who says she's your cousin. 先行詞というのは必ず関係詞の前にあるものではないんでしょうか？あと先行詞は必ず名詞ですよね？非制限用法(継続用法)のwhichの場合は特別で、前の節全体や節の一部を先行詞とする(したがって先行詞が名詞以外になる)場合がありますが、それ以外の関係詞の先行詞は必ず名詞です。この例文の場合のwhoの先行詞は(a)womanです。何故、関係詞の直前に先行詞がきていないのかというと、 (1)この文はまずThere is a woman outside.という文と She says she's your cousin.という2つの文が、(a)womanを先行詞として関係代名詞whoを使って繋げたものです。 (2)先行詞＋関係詞という語順になるように単純につなげますとThere is a woman who says she's your cousin (,)outside.又は Outside,there is a woman who says she's your cousin.のような語順にせざる負えないのですが、どちらもoutsideという語の位置がかなり不自然に感じられます。 (3)このような場合、”意味を取り違える恐れがない範囲で”副詞句(節)・形容詞句(節)・前置詞句などの修飾語句を適当に移動するというのは、実際の英文ではよくやる事です。文法的にも、関係詞の先行詞は「先行詞よりも前」になければならないのですが『先行詞はかならず直前』になければならないというルールはありません。先行詞は読み手が、関係詞の直前の節内から自由に選んでよい(もちろん意味が通じる範囲で)というのが基本ルールです。 (4)特にthere構文の場合は、以下のように先行詞と関係詞の間に修飾語句が入り込んでいる例がいろいろあります。例) There is a moman called XXX who says ,,, . There is a man in here who says ... . There is a young boy of the US who says ... . また、これは別の質問者様の例文そのままですが、以下のような例文に対する同じような質問が以前にもありました。 It can help him accept the fact that there is [much] in the world that differs greatly from what he sees around him and to which he must learn to adapt himself. (先行詞muchと関係詞thatの間にin the worldという修飾語句が入り込んでいる)
